SUNNY DAY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL PRIZE GIVING DAY
Principal’s speech 2019
I warmly welcome our Guest of Honour and all of you present on this Prize Giving Day event, where we are gathered to celebrate the success achieved by our pupils across the curriculum.
The fact that you came from all corners in these numbers is a clear indication that the welfare of our school is so dear to your hearts.
On this special day, I will highlight the major achievements for the year.
The learners who are going to receive prizes today is a clear testimony that this year has been the best year ever in terms of our academic, sporting and cultural achievements. However, throughout the year we kept you updated through our broadcast groups, newsletters, website and Facebook page.
As is customary on this day, I will start by reviewing our academic performance for 2019. I am absolutely delighted to inform you that our learners continue to raise the academic flag high as portrayed by the following results:
All children in the Ecd department are able to construct words, read, write their names, colour, tell stories and many other things which is quite commendable.
Grade 1 recorded a 100% in the just ended end of year examinations.
Grade 2: 100%
Grade 3: 100%
Grade 4: 100%
Grade 5: 100%
Grade 6: 100%
Grade 7: 100% in the school’s first ever Zimsec public examination.
I thank all the staff who prepared the learners for examinations because without their dedication, the sterling performance by learners would not have been possible. The academic results are a true representation of the commitment of staff, hard work by learners and the support and encouragement from parents and guardians from home.
I encourage all our learners using words of RALPH MARSON who said; “do not lower your expectations to meet your performance. Raise your level of performance to meet your expectations.”
We want all learners to give the best across the whole curriculum. In order to do this, the school promotes a culture of genuine enthusiasm and this has been expressed among our learners in the achievements I will outline in sports, music, culture and service to others.
In Sports: the school hosted its invitational Cross Country meeting which had 6 schools taking part. Our athletes performed very well in term 1.
In term 2, the school successfully hosted colt’s rugby and fillies’ hockey festival which attracted 12 schools. This event was supported by OK Parktown.
The school was invited to Lomagundi College’s colt’s rugby and fillies hockey festival. The fillies B hockey team won all their matches against schools like lomagundi, barwick, Bishopslea, while the colts rugby team gave a good account of themselves.
The Grade 3 hockey girls also took part in lilfordia festival again for the first time. Our efforts are being recognized hence we are being invited to these major festivals that attract the best schools. The infants department also participated at the interschools infants Sport which was hosted by Acacia Junior School.
Our school also take part in Allied Arts Speech and Drama festival. Our learners excelled in poetry this year.
Under good citizenship where we train our children to be citizens who care: we are perennial leaders in donating to Jairos jiri Centre. Parents, you have a critical role in shaping the future of the children in lifelong attributes. We thank you for the various donations you made to the needy through our learners.
Ladies and gentlemen, I look with great pride at our achievements. I am proud of our learners and teachers not forgetting you our dear parents/guardians for the support.
One of the fundamental reason for our success as a school is the level of individual support that we give to the learners that enable them to achieve their full potential.
